Ardra

Ardra literally means "the moist one," and is therefore considered an indicator of the initiation of the proper rainy season with the entry of the Sun into this Nakshatra. Every year, this occurs on or around 21 June. Its ruling deity, Rudra, is described in the scriptures as the God of rain and all forms of water. Water is considered the first and foremost of the eight manifestations of Lord Rudra.

Ardra has only one prominent star, which appears like a raindrop or a diamond. Therefore, Ardra itself is considered to represent Lord Rudra, while the companion star is regarded as his consort, Goddess Parvati or Rudrani, as stated in the Taittiriya Brahmana.

Ardra is visible from almost any location on the globe, except near the poles, between May and August.

Rudra and Ardra

In Vedic hymns, Rudra is described as the first knower of thousands of medicines and therapies, the slayer of evil, the father of all storms, the controller of the universe, and an exalted and beneficent deity who imparts divine knowledge. He is also described as the divine source of life and the sole causeway of sustenance and annihilation in the individual soul.

The principal star of Ardra is the 10th brightest star in the night sky. It has a distinct reddish appearance and is visible to the naked eye, which is why it is recognised as a red giant star.

Ardra Nakshatra natives are traditionally described as having an investigative mind and a strong inclination toward research. They are not afraid to voice their opinions or use intimidation when necessary. They represent a high level of transformation through cleansing and possess a "do or die" attitude.
