Jyeshtha

The meaning

The story of Jyeshtha.

Jyeshtha resembles a circular earring and is represented by three prominent stars. The name literally means “the eldest.” Its presiding deity, Indra, is better known as the God of Rain, but in the Vedas he is also associated with the wind, the Sun, and the slaying of powerful demons such as Vritrasura.

The principal star of Jyeshtha is the brightest red-white star in the Vrishchika (Scorpio) region and has a variable magnitude. It is located centrally within the Rashi region. Despite its irregular size, if it were placed at the centre of a solar system, it would be large enough to encompass the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.

Jyeshtha is associated with wealth, achievement, beauty, passion, a short-tempered nature, aggression, military affairs, warfare, and intoxication.

People born under this Nakshatra possess the capacity for great accomplishment, but they must first learn to manage and resolve their inner conflicts. They are often inclined to defend the vulnerable and underprivileged.

The ruling deity, Indra, bestows a shrewd, courageous, and determined nature upon the natives.
